Jude Walton

ServSafe Consultant

Jude was born and raised in London (UK), and grew up in a traditional local pub run by her parents. This childhood environment taught her that good business and a sense of local community are intrinsically linked, with the true success of each being mutually dependent.

After graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in English literature, Jude relocated to Ann Arbor in 1993. Almost immediately, she began work at the fledgling Mail Order department of Zingerman’s Deli. Within three years, Jude formed a business partnership with Mo Frechette, and established Zingerman’s Mail Order as a separate operation within the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses. Over the next 12 years, Jude led a variety of areas of the business, including the prodution department and purchasing. Her focus on safe food handling and sanitation began around 2000, when she first became ServSafe certified and a certified HACCP manager. After developing and implementing an improved food safety training program for the Zingerman’s community, Jude also gained certification to teach the ServSafe seminar in 2003. Since then she has taught several seminars, with a 100% successful passing rate on the examination. In addition to food safety training, Jude also taught several other internal classes, including customer service and purchasing.

Jude stepped down from her role as managing partner at Mail Order after 15 years in the spring of 2008. She is currently a freelance phtographer, and an active member on the board of directors of Home of New Vision, a local non-profit providing treatment and support for those with chemical addictions. She remains connected to Zingerman’s through her role as ZingTrain ServSafe Specialist, conducting trainings for both Zingerman’s staff and outside clients.
