Jennifer Yim

Trainer & American Dream Game Creator
Bio

Expertise

Jenni’s training specialties include Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), How to Improve (Standard Operating Procedures), Customer Service, and Dialogue. She’s the creator of The American Dream Game, a one-of-a-kind, interactive game designed to spark conversation around using diversity to build a more inclusive workplace. Jenni’s brought a DEIB lens to many of the established, everyday concepts at Zingerman’s, like the 10-4 Rule and how we talk about beliefs. Jenni knows that the interaction of training and hospitality can create a robust, positive experience for guests, and delights in seeing how our organizational recipes can be adapted and useful in unexpected places.

Strengths & Style

Jenni loves to learn by doing (with a robust, effective Standard Operating Procedure nearby) and appreciates exposure to a range of opinions and perspectives. She’s adept at connecting complex ideas with concepts that are already familiar—making the learning process feel less overwhelming—and often relies on stories to help bring concepts to life and promote deeper learning in presentations. Participants often say that Jenni helped them think about something differently; it’s her favorite compliment to receive! Jenni exudes a quiet, enthusiastic energy. She’s humble and empathetic, always open to feedback, knows the subtlest of smiles can be just the right amount to connect with someone, and revels in getting to meet people from so many different backgrounds and industries.

Experience

Jenni joined ZingTrain in 2022, but she has a wealth of prior experience working across Zingerman’s Community of Businesses (ZCoB), starting from bussing tables at the Deli’s Next Door Café as a teen! She served as an assistant herd manager for Zingerman’s Roadhouse when they had an agricultural department at Cornman Farms, provided event support here at ZingTrain, and worked in the service center at Zingerman’s Mail Order. Jenni also teaches internal Zingerman’s classes and is a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, a group of Zingerman’s staff members who catalyze the ZCoB to continuously improve the experience of inclusion for all our staff, applicants, and customers—a role that’s close to her heart as a second-generation Korean American. Jenni also has previous experience in academic administration; she launched The Global Scholars Program (GSP) at the University of Michigan, a living and learning community that brings together Michigan students from all around the world.
