Design a Workshop Series

Blog

Katy Alexander

Twice a year, we offer our Leadership Development Workshop Series, consisting of eight virtual workshops designed for anyone seeking a comprehensive leadership training program, with additional support from ZingTrain and cohort participants.

It’s a very popular, impactful training – and we realize that one size does not fit all! Many organizations have taken this concept and adapted it into a workshop series designed specifically for their leaders. Working alongside a ZingTrain trainer, you can customize the entire experience, including the timing of the workshops, the content to help you achieve your outcomes, the pace of the workshop schedule, and whether to hold it in-person or virtually.

Perks of creating a workshop series

  • The content is designed as a whole over the course of the series. We tailor the order of the workshops to build on ideas learned as we go along.
  • Participants practice what they learn and come back to the next session with questions and learnings
  • We add supplemental content, exercises, and reflections to help you achieve your outcomes and goals.
  • You save money! Book 3+ workshops and save 20% on the series.

Client Story: Workshop Series for Artisan Ceramicists

A long-time client and friend of ZingTrain, Motawi Tileworks, wanted a shared workshop series experience for a dozen supervisors and managers – a mix of seasoned folks and newer leaders eager for tools.

After several thoughtful conversations, we decided on a quartet of half-day workshops most relevant to the group: Living Servant Leadership, 5 Steps to Effective On-Shift Training, Courageous Conversations, and Leader’s Guide to Performance Management, taught every two weeks in their break room.

The biggest takeaway has been having a foundational ethos for my team of supervisors. We can all use the same language and approach to training, performance, and feedback, which is an asset in unifying the team and having consistent leadership across departments.

Over the eight weeks, we saw increased confidence in emerging leaders, re-engagement of others, and enthusiasm by all! Being together at multiple workshops gave everyone the opportunity to form a common language, gain a solid foundation of tools, and better support one another in multiple facets of leadership. Win, win, win!

Everything was useful and eye-opening… ample time for discussing and reflection… gave me tools I will use in both my personal and professional life.

Why people love our workshop series

  • The opportunity to build connections between everyone participating and to learn more about the business or organization as a whole.
  • The content is customized to their industry, level of experience, job responsibilities, and the outcomes their organization identified
  • Multiple participants have shared that taking part in a workshop series made them feel valued by their organization for investing in their professional growth

I appreciate having a scheduled time that allows our management team to slow down and focus on what we value as a company and how we can improve.

Client Story: Workshop Series for Restaurant Groups

We recently concluded two custom virtual workshop series with two different restaurant groups: Merriman’s in Hawaii and Link Restaurant Group in New Orleans. Both own and operate multiple locations across their region, both needed to get creative with scheduling so that all their leaders could attend, and both wanted employees to form relationships with people across their different locations.

Coincidentally, we conducted a total of fifteen virtual workshops for both groups, but each series was structured differently to best meet the needs of the business.

  • Link chose five different content areas and scheduled them at three different times within a week, so leaders could pick and choose what worked best for their schedules. They prioritized boots-on-the-ground tools and techniques that their supervisors and managers could use right away.
  • Merriman’s grouped their leaders into three cohorts that each went through a series of five workshops together. Their sessions took a more focused dive into leadership, helping them feel more values-aligned in their daily work.

As usual, it’s neither partial to management or employees. It’s very balanced and empathetic, practical, and accomodating. I’ve never left a ZingTrain without having several actionable pieces of guidance that I take back and use with my team right away.

How to decide between in-person vs. virtual

  • In-person workshops are a great option for organizations within a 2.5-3 hour radius from Ann Arbor, Michigan, but you could be the first to repeatedly fly us to Hawaii.
  • A virtual workshop series is great when your staff are far-flung, or if your HQ is quite far from ours.
  • Ultimately, it depends on your team! Some folks relish the opportunity to engage with their co-workers in person; others work remotely, and meeting in the virtual world is a welcome part of their work life.
