Leadership Spotlight: Erika Buri of Outdoor Sylvania
Erika began working at Outdoor Sylvania in 2000 and has been the Executive Director for the last decade. Outdoor Sylvania is a government-funded organization that manages recreational parks in Sylvania, Ohio. She considers great service to the community her main responsibility and that of all employees.
Growing up in Toledo, “Ann Arbor was synonymous with Zingerman’s”, but it wasn’t until 2021 that she learned about ZingTrain. We believe our paths crossed at just the right time. After five years in her new role, Erika knew what was working well and what challenges she still faced. She signed up for our virtual 16-week Leadership Development Workshop Series led by ZingTrain Trainer, Timo Anderson.
She came into the Leadership Series with many goals: how to convey her vision for the organization to full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees; how to give staff the best training experience possible; how to get institutional knowledge out of someone’s head before they retired; how to hold people accountable to their job responsibilities.
She came out of the Leadership Series with dozens of new tools to approach her work, and has been impressed with what she’s been able to implement over the past three years! The series gave her “the ability to use what works and put the other things aside [for now].” She still refers back to her workbooks when thinking about current challenges. After all, “You’re never done improving!” she declares.
Tune in for an insightful conversation between Erika and Timo to get an inside look at our Leadership Development Workshop Series, and its impact on Outdoor Sylvania.
